Sarah, a 2-year-old girl, loves snacks. Crackers and biscuits are her favorite snacks. Unfortunately, these are the only food that she likes. An effect to this, Sarah's body is very thin and does not match the minimum weight of a child in her age. Sarah's weight is only 6.9 kg with a height of 78 cm. Whereas according to IDAI (Indonesian Pediatrician Association), a 2-year-old girl should ideally weigh 11.5 kg and height 86.4 cm. Both her weight and height are below normal, making Sarah fall into the category of stunting toddler.
Economic is not the main problem that caused Sarah to become stunted child, but instead it is the lack of parenting knowledge of her mother and grandmother who takes care of her. Their knowledge in nutrition is very minimum that all these time, they assumed Sarah gets enough food she needs from her snacks. Sadly, this happen to families in several villages in Jember Regency in Indonesia.
Stunting could impact children’s health not only during their growth period but also when they are adults. This is why this cause is so important not only to help Sarah and her family but also to prevent more “Sarah” in the future. In collaboration with YAPPIKA-ActionAid through their program #DesaSehat, we aim to help those stunting children in Jember Regency, and I believe with your support we could reach more children and family. Donate now and be #PahlawanGizi for Sarah!
